The presentation will cover employment in the area's major industries, working conditions, industrial diseases and mining disasters. It will look at home life during the interwar period including housing, family sizes and health, and explore the way people in the early 20th Century relaxed and took their holidays.

Join us for a guided walk between Fenton War Memorial and Glebedale Park Memorial, exploring local history, community memories, and the stories behind the two monuments. This guided walk will explore how local people, industries and communities have shaped Fenton over time, and how these places continue to be remembered and valued today. As part of the event, you are invited to bring or share photographs, stories, memories and memorabilia connected to Fenton, Glebedale Park, the former Glebedale Colliery or the War Memorial in Albert Square.

Exploring Hanley's Monuments and Stories

Explore Hanley Park and Hanley Cemetery through a guided walk and self-guided trail examining the stories behind some of Hanley's historic sites and the people connected to them. Discover the lives and legacies of figures including George Howson, John Birchall and Edwin John Hammersley, and explore the connections between Hanley Park and Hanley Cemetery before culminating at the Hanley Cemetery War Memorial, which is about to be restored as part of the Centenary Restoration Fund. You will also be invited to contribute your own thoughts and reflections on the importance of remembering and caring for the city's monuments.

A guided walk around the Potteries town of Fenton focussing on the community buildings created by industrialists William Baker and William Meath Baker, which included everything from factories to houses, the library, church and town hall. Following on from our acclaimed "Exploring..." series of Heritage Open Day events, this event is co-ordinated by Potteries Heritage Society and led by Andy Perkin. Refreshments available before the event in the cafe at Fenton Town Hall.
