Step inside one of Stoke-on-Trent’s remarkable surviving industrial buildings and discover the story of Oliver’s Mill – from the everyday working lives that supported the world-famous Potteries to ambitious plans for its future. The surviving mill buildings, kilns, engine house and chimney still tell the story of its industrial past, while the vast interiors retain much of their extraordinary scale and character. Years of vacancy have also taken their toll: roofs have failed, water has entered the buildings and parts of the site are no longer safely accessible. For Heritage Open Days 2026, Teapot Factory CIC is offering a rare opportunity to see Oliver’s Mill in its current state and hear about an ambitious new chapter in its story. Limited access to the inside of the Mill so will therefore be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis (2 tours of 10).

Join British Ceramics Biennial for a drop-in clay workshop in the heart of The Potteries. Learn about Our Time, Our Place, Our Heritage - an intergenerational project celebrating the people, skills and stories that have shaped life in Stoke-on-Trent. British Ceramics Biennial is hosting a hands-on workshop at their studio in the heart of Stoke-on-Trent to explore some of the traditional craft skills and techniques which reflect the ceramic heritage of the city. During this drop-in session, you’ll have the chance to learn about Our Time, Our Place, Our Heritage – a major intergenerational project to map and capture the city's industrial ceramic hand skills. Funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, produced by Stoke Creates and British Ceramics Biennial, the project is helping to safeguard the city’s endangered industrial ceramic hand skills for future generations.

Do you have experience working in The Potteries, or a story to share about your connection with the ceramic history of Stoke-on-Trent? Our Time, Our Place, Our Heritage is a research project created in partnership with Stoke Creates and the British Ceramics Biennial to investigate, map and capture the history of the city's industrial ceramic hand skills. We are looking for people who have worked in Stoke-on-Trent's pottery factories or have grown up in the shadow of the bottle kilns and have stories to share. We’re looking for stories about the mould-makers, slip-casters, fettlers, spongers, handlers, turners, modellers, kiln loaders and stokers, packers, tube-liners, painters, dippers, foot wipers, transferers, gilders, saggar makers, jolleyers, designers, chemists, electricians, buyers, drivers, office staff and the communities they were a part of. Drop in for a chat and a cup of tea with our project staff.

St Bartholomew's Church Norton-le-Moors is a Grade II listed building with outstanding views towards the Staffordshire Moorlands. Visitors to the belfry and the Church will be able to learn more about its fascinating history. The first Church in Norton-le-Moors was recorded from 1180, the parish of 'Nortone' is listed in the Domesday book. The present building was built in 1737 with a further extension completed in 1915. Explore the Church and its surroundings using the 'Guide for Visitors' pamphlet and our volunteers will be happy to assist in any way. Access to the belfry is from the footpath, climb to the top of the steps where the ringers will be demonstrating their skills from 12 noon and happily talk about bell ringing as well as encouraging you to have a go. The Church itself has many different facets, including beautiful stained glass windows, hand embroidered altar frontals as well as a stunning eagle lectern to name a few.
